When it’s too cold to venture out, try dialing in the gourmet experience.

When the weather outside is frightful, it seems counter-intuitive to leave the comforts of home for a fine-dining experience. After all, that would require ruining your date-night hair with a toque, not to mention pleading with the parking gods for a spot close to your favourite restaurant.

But don’t let sub-Arctic temperatures put your romance — or the menu — on ice this winter. In my tastiest assignment yet, I tried out three local food companies that offer mouth-watering alternatives to the restaurant experience. Whether there’s a special date night on the horizon or you’re just looking for a hearty, nutritious meal for the whole family, Ottawa chefs have some delicious, locally sourced meal options available — all from the cozy comfort of your own home.
