Creekside Estate Winery - Home of Rood Apples Cider

Website

Their name must be a typo. Maybe they’re so Canadian they didn’t want to commit to calling their cider Rude? The fact is, Rood is Dutch for red. Red: because this cider is basically the love child of 5 different delicious red apples. But why Dutch? Creekside, where we make their cider, is in the village of Jordan Station which was founded by the Pennsylvania Dutch. Long story short, they weren’t really Dutch. They were German. And the German word for red is rot. Rot Apples isn’t exactly mouth-watering. So, Dutch it is. There you have it.

Dragan Brewing and Wine

Website

The story of Dragan Brewing and Wine Company did not begin like other breweries or wineries.

One would think that an idea like this would sprout into existence as a product of a drinking session with friends, but instead theirs began with a bedtime story told by their founder to his 6-month-old son, Dragan.

The story soon became a vision of a company that would strive to be better and make a difference. Not just in their products but with theirr employees, customers, business partners, fellow breweries/wineries and the communities that they live in.

Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery

Website

Henry of Pelham’s 300-acre vineyard is located in the Short Hills Bench sub-appellation of the Niagara Peninsula.

The Short Hills Bench is the most easterly of the sub-appellations located within the Niagara Escarpment. It encompasses the land rising up from the plain of the peninsula south of Regional Road 81 to the Escarpment Brow and situated between Twelve Mile Creek and Fifteen Mile Creek.

The undulating hills and valleys of the Short Hills, which rest on an ancient buried valley that once cut through the Niagara Escarpment and connected the basins Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, provide long gentle slopes with excellent drainage and sun exposure. The warm sunny days and cool nights characteristic of this area are perfect for developing the intense grape flavours derived from its complex soils. All the grapes for Henry of Pelham Estate and Speck Family Reserve wines are grown in the Short Hills Bench sub-appellation.

One thing unites every VQA wine produced by Henry of Pelham: the land. Their family has lived on it for generations, and their vines have been putting down deep roots in St. Catharines, Ontario for decades. From full-bodied Baco Noir to rich Chardonnay, our wines capture this unique connection to our corner of Niagara.

Fenelon Falls Brewing Co. & Waterbridge Chocolate Café

Website

Nestled in the heart of the Kawarthas, Fenelon Falls Brewing Co.& Waterbridge Chocolate Café is housed in a building with a rich history. Originally part of the McArthur House Hotel in the 1880s, it has witnessed the ebb and flow of time. In the mid-20th century, the space became a blacksmith shop under the skilled hands of Charles Kelly, a legacy that continued with Dick Bulmer, Fenelon Fall's last Blacksmith, into the 1960s. Today, they've carefully revitalized this historic structure, preserving the heritage stone set two centuries ago.

With 50 feet of windows offering breathtaking views of the Trent Severn Waterway's Lock 34 and Cameron Lake, the brewery provides a picturesque backdrop for every visit. Whether you're passing through the locks on a sun-soaked summer day, exploring sled trails in the winter, or any time in between, they offer an unforgettable experience.

Their journey began three years ago when they took the reins from the original owners. With a commitment to preserving the essence of the region, the space is a tribute to the people, heritage, and life that define Fenelon Falls. Fast-forward to three years later, they stand as a haven for community and camaraderie. Hope to see you soon at Fenelon Falls Brewing Co & Waterbridge Chocolate Café.

GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Co.

Website

GoodLot is an organic hop farm and a solar-powered brewery creating fresh ales and lagers using hyper-local ingredients known as #farmraisedbeer.

Gail and Phil Winters purchased Goodlot in 2009 and soon determined that organic hop farming would be their pursuit.  In 2011 they established their first test plot of 125 plants. That same year they helped co-found the Ontario Hop Growers Association.

In 2013, they built another hop yard and planted an additional 1500 rhizomes, all the while growing naturally and eventually harnessing regenerative farming methods (ie:use sheep for grazing).

GoodLot Farmstead Brewing was launched in 2017, creating ales and lagers using their own hops and/or supplementing with 100% Ontario hops. Their beer can be found at select LCBO’s across Ontario.  Alternatively, their farm is open to the public with a tasting facility/retail store, beer gardens, a 14 hole disc golf course and an on-site Food Truck.

The folks at GoodLot are community builders, striving to expand the circle for all to share. They love creating deeper connections with their neighbours, other farmers and brewers, and are seriously grateful for good beer, good laughs and the dirt under their nails.

Hessenland Inn & Schatz Winery

Website

Steeped in history, Hessenland Inn marries two intriguing stories.  The first story belongs to the farm itself and dates back to the late 19th century when it was owned by the Bedard Family who were one of the first families to settle in the area.  The original Bedard farm house still stands today and is attached to the Inn’s main building.  In 1998 the farm’s barn was torn down to its original foundation and carefully restored to what is today, The Coach House.  This rustic yet elegant barn-like setting has become one of the most unique reception venues along Ontario’s West Coast.

The second story began in Germany, in the province of Hessen more than thirty years ago and belongs to Ernst and Christa Ihrig.  They dreamed of moving to Canada to open a business which combined their passion for hospitality with their hobby of horse breeding.  Hessenland today now boasts expansive gardens, dining rooms, accommodations, 5 acres of vineyard and the unique Coach House reception hall.

Today the Inn is run by the second generation of Ihrigs.  Frank (the eldest son of Ernst and Christa) along with his wife Liz have taken over as co-owners.

Honey Pie Hives and Herbals

Website

Honey Pie Hives and Herbals is celebrating 24 years in business this year.  They started our honey and herb business in the spring of 2000.

The mysterious and fascinating honey bee is a constant source of inspiration to them. Many of the same flowers that the bees collect nectar from can be used in herbal preparations to ensure health and well-being in humans.

They keep bees and grow herbs on their farm in Prince Edward County, Ontario. They combine beeswax and propolis with herbs to make natural healthful products. They are a small, farm based business. The sandy soil and the lake effect combine to make ideal growing conditions for many of the herbs we use in their products. All of their products are made by hand in their workshop in their straw bale farmhouse ~except for the honey which is made by the bees!

Currently, there are 8 acres of Cabernet Franc (near Jordan Road) and 3 acres of Reisling (near the back of the property, directly across from the tasting room). Diane Sullivan Arabesque Pottery

Website

Diane Sullivan has been working full time in clay for 30 years.

In 1994 Diane graduated with a Masters of Fine Art in Ceramic Art from the University of Washington in Seattle, having done her undergraduate on the other coast at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (1992). Originally from Ontario, she decided to settle in Alberta after school having been invited to do a residency at the Banff Centre for Fine Arts.

Calgary was a nice quiet pre-boomtown then with a welcoming arts community and affordable living and studio space for an artist. There she began her pottery line, Arabesque Pottery; a line of ornately decorated porcelain serving ware. While marketing this line through North America by way of wholesale, retail and consignment sales, Diane successfully pursued an international exhibition career of larger palace pots and sculptures. Diane has been the fortunate recipient of numerous grants and awards over the years for her work, partaken in many artist residencies and has presented at a long list of conferences and workshops. Her work is in many private and public collections, including that of our Canadian government.

In 2008, growing disenchanted with the then boom time life out west, she returned to Ontario, purchasing her dream building in Williamsburg, where she currently slings the mud in her dedicated studio/gallery/home.

Dianne's Twisted collection became the center of her universe in 2013, after perfecting the imperfections of the technique. This collection of carefree, elegant designs became an instant hit with customers right across Canada, the United States, and beyond. The pieces are made using sterling silver and 14k gold fill.

Every item is handmade in the beautiful Ottawa Valley at Dianne's home studio - a bright and cozy place, where Dianne's daughter's (Eliza - 4, and Alex - 6 months) like to visit, play, and help.

Dominion City Brewing Company began because they wanted to make great beer. They also wanted to bring people together.

In the early 1970s, newcomers to Canada, Kamal and Sudha Mehra, opened their first restaurant, Mehra’s Delicatessen, on McDermot Avenue across from Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre. Kamal’s mother, Usha Mehra, immigrated to Canada a year later, and the family founded Winnipeg’s first North Indian restaurant, India Gardens, featuring all of Mrs. Mehra’s original recipes and Winnipeg’s first five-star buffet. Over the years, Kamal and Sudha Mehra enamoured thousands of diners with those dishes. In 1994, the Mehras decided to expand, and opened their York Avenue location in Winnipeg, naming it East India Company. Their dedication to South Asian cuisine and culture, through the legacy they created, was felt both locally and nationally. Today, Sudha Mehra and her children carry forward this legacy of cuisine through three five-star restaurants in Winnipeg and Ottawa.

Over the last fifty years, East India Company restaurants has established themselves as providing exceptional fine-dining experiences. Their Garam Masala — a fine blend of spices roasted and ground to make the base to their most classic and flavourful curries — is a Mehra family recipe that dates back five generations and distinguishes their dishes from all others. Their chefs have been trained personally by Kamal and Sudha Mehra, and  Executive Chef, Nitin Mehra, sets the menus in each location, providing something spectacular and inspired, whether at lunch or dinner. The East India Company restaurants are filled with centuries-old Indian wood carvings, paintings, and intricate tapestries — all chosen personally by Kamal Mehra, who had an undeniable passion for South Asian art.

They take pride in the strong, family-centered management team. Sudha Mehra oversees the operations of all locations, and is based in Winnipeg. She has passed on her decades of experience and knowledge to her children, who have carried on the family’s passion for hospitality and fine Indian cuisine.

Sachit Mehra, the eldest son of Kamal and Sudha, has been a part of the East India Company since 1994. He is trained and qualified in every facet of the restaurant’s operation, and currently manages our Winnipeg location. His dedication to his family’s history can be seen in his passion for providing a friendly and family-oriented dining experience to all who walk through the Winnipeg location’s doors.

Anish Mehra is graduate of the University of Guelph, specializing in Hotel and Tourism Management. He is also a certified Sommelier and brings his keen knowledge and expertise to the management of the Ottawa locations’ daily operations. His enthusiasm in expanding the business through Ontario is matched only by his devotion to customer satisfaction.

Divya Mehra, Kamal and Sudha’s daughter, assists Sudha and Sachit in managing the Winnipeg location. An internationally renowned artist, Divya shares her father’s passion for art, evident in the unique and exquisite pieces that decorate the walls of all our locations.

Nitin Mehra is a certified Sommelier and Red Seal Chef, trained at both Algonquin College and Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. He is the Executive Chef of the East India Company Restaurants. Nitin’s ability to seamlessly fuse treasured family recipes with contemporary cuisine is exemplified in all menu selections. Nitin has also led the family in the development and sales of the East India Company line of ready-to-cook Sauces.

Coffee Roasters

Equator Coffee

Website
Equator is a local roastery based in the heart of the Ottawa Valley.  Since 1998, they've been roasting, delivering, and serving fresh, fair trade, organic coffee since 1998. Founded by Craig and Amber Hall with the goal of making a difference globally and locally, the name was chosen for a reason: to ‘Equate’ the benefit of drinking coffee, not just for the consumer but for all the people along the way, from our staff who pack and serve it- to the farmers who grow it.

20+ years (and many lessons learned!) later, Craig, Amber, and the whole Equator team are still driven by the cause: to roast, deliver, and serve 100% fair trade, organic specialty coffee. Combining their love of people with our love of great coffee, they've been blessed to help shine a bit more light in an industry with a dark history (and a lot of bad coffee!). Their goal is to let that light shine brighter with every customer who hears the story, every staff member who tells the story, and every producer partner who lives it.
Better coffee makes a better world.

In August of 2019, Equator became a Certifed B Corporation. What does this mean? Certified B Corporations® (B Corps™) are for-profit companies that use the power of business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. They meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Feelgood mustard

Website

Sometimes it helps to work backwards. Natasha LeBlanc, a professional chef who trained at the Culinary Institute of Canada in P.E.I before working in some of Ottawa's top restaurants, says "preserving has been our gateway into farming." LeBlanc and her husband, Brian Faraday, are first-time farmers who set their sights and their dream of a market garden on a 65-acre property in Lanark County. Inspired by the heritage apple trees and wild grapes found on their farm, LeBlanc started making preserves to buy the couple time to develop the orchard and berry bushes, which can take years before they produce enough volume to take fruit to market. And because she likes "cooking with booze," LeBlanc started collaborating with local brewers and distillers to extend the season of her product line. Dr. Feelgood Maple Chipotle Mustard, starring Stalwart Brewing Co.’s signature IPA, has a sweet and savoury flavour profile, with a hint of heat and maple. While it's a seedy favourite, LeBlanc also uses Stalwart's Bad Moon rye stout in her barbecue sauce and Big Papa American Pale Ale in an apricot chili jam.

Fettuccine's Fine Foods

Website

Fettuccine's has been operating in Ottawa since 1981. Their humble beginnings started with a small restaurant in the business section of Bank St., where they also sold fresh pastas and sauces made on the premises. From day one, they focused on using fresh and healthy ingredients.

After 14 years, they moved to Elgin St. where they opened a fresh pasta store selling regular and filled fresh pastas, fresh sauces, fresh salads, and fresh prepared meals to take home. Over the years, they added a small menu of hot dishes to take home. As they continued to grow and evolve, they realized that they wanted to focus on healthy prepared meals to be sold through other stores. With that in mind, they moved to their present location on Canotek Rd.

Fettuccine's mission is to create the healthiest possible products using as many organic ingredients as availability permits, without sacrificing the traditional presentation and taste that their customers have come to know and love.

Fettuccine's firmly believes that food and health work hand-in-hand. We are what we eat, and that's why they are committed to providing their customers with the best possible food options to help them lead healthier lives. Breweries

Flora Hall Brewing

Website

Flora Hall Brewing is a neighbourhood gathering place designed from the ground up to welcome and delight customers with delicious beer and food and warm service, all in a striking setting.

Founder Dave Longbottom spent decades travelling the globe in other ventures, always seeking out the best local taverns and watering holes and sampling the drink, food and hospitality on offer. Flora Hall is the synthesis of these experiences, launched to provide Ottawa with a unique new drinking and eating locale, and built to last.

After rescuing the derelict structure at 37 Flora St. in 2016, an extensive, year-long transformation began. The renovation is built upon and complements the building’s long and familiar heritage as an engineering warehouse and office. All the work was completed by local trades and craftspeople.

Flora Hall's beer is made in their 18 hectolitre, two-vessel brewhouse, including one bright tank and five single fermentation tanks. They produce a variety of beer styles made with quality ingredients and the careful attention of their talented brewers.

The kitchen at Flora Hall produces creative and contemporary takes on classic comfort foods from around the globe, with ingredients sourced locally and seasonally. The food complements drinking and conversation, perfect for snacking and sharing over an afternoon or evening of conviviality.

Foundry Collective & Coffee Bar

Website

A community-centred space where working professionals and coffee enthusiasts can connect and collaborate.

Owners, Kaitey and Kevin Cosgrove moved to Carleton Place from Orleans in 2016 with the thought that it would be an affordable alternative to city living – and the commute couldn’t be that bad to their jobs in public service. However, the more time the couple spent sharing pints with new friends at the local craft brewery, or chasing kids around the beach at Riverside Park, it became clear to them that this was where they would set down their roots.

Their first business venture in Carleton Place was a seasonal ice cream truck (built in a converted horse trailer) serving ice cream at Riverside Park. After some time in that business the couple decided to leave their government jobs, sold the ice cream truck (RIP ChillZone613), and began a career in real estate. They started the Cosgrove Real Estate Group in 2020 and were looking for a commercial space to house their office when they found out about the old vacuum shop possibly being for sale. Kevin and Kaitey Cosgrove purchased the building that housed the vacuum shop in the summer of 2021 and opened Foundry Collective & Coffee Bar in 2023. Kaitey and Kevin both share a passion for good coffee and chocolate chip cookies.

Glengarry Fine Cheese

Website

Glengarry Fine Cheese is situated on the farm of Margaret Peters-Morris’ family ancestral lands in the corner of South Glengarry Township on the shores of the St. Lawrence River.

The land which is farmed by the Peters family is providing the quality hay, grass and grains which the Holstein herd is fed each year. The dairy is across the road from the cheese factory, the milk that goes in their quality artisan cheese begins at the family farm.

Margaret began making cheese from the farm milk back in the early 1990’s. She is of Dutch heritage therefore, gouda was always the number one choice of cheese to be made. The overall love of cheese in her family propelled Margaret’s interest to add more varieties to the repertoire with trips abroad to learn more about farmstead Cheesemaking and eventually developing recipes that are the basis of the varieties produced in the plant today. To have an artisan plant was Margaret’s dream and is now her life’s vocation, to be on a farm making cheese in the county where she grew up.

At Glengarry Fine Cheese, they combine their love of Cheesemaking to every batch and we carefully age the cheese in their European designed aging rooms that provide the ambiance that refine their cheeses as they develop their mouth-watering finish in their own time. We make Lankaaster gouda style cheese, Creamy Celtic Blue and delicate bloomy Figaro from their cow’s milk, and recently began making variety goat’s milk cheese which are also evolving into exceptional cheese.

Honey Pie Hives & Herbals is celebrating 24 years in business this year. The started our honey and herb business in the spring of 2000.

They are a small, farm-based business. The sandy soil and the lake effect combine to make ideal growing conditions for many of the herbs we use in their products. All of their products are made by hand in their workshop in their straw bale farmhouse ~except for the honey which is made by the bees!
